Double Sided Custom Flag vs. Single Sided

Visual Clarity from Every Angle

An advantage of double sided custom flags is that the design is visible from all angles. Both sides sports the full design without any logos or text being cropped, reversed, or flipped. If the flag is hung at the center of the event, people positioned on either side can easily read the message or recognize the logo. Single sided flags differ in that only one side features the clear design. The back side is typically a faint, reversed version of the design, which can be messy from behind. For places like central stages or busy intersections, double sided flags ensure the brand always looks sharp no matter the angle.

Best Fits for Different Event Spots

Often the choice is dependent on the placement of the flag. Single sided flags work great for areas where people only see one side, like walls, fences, or the sides of tents. These places are good because the back won’t be visible, and in small areas, a thinner flag won’t be able to take up too much room. Open spaces are better for double sided flags.

Imagine a flagpole located in a park, a trade show booth with a flag that customers can view from all angles, or a flag sitting on a parade float. These are times when the flag needs to be visible from all angles, and in such cases the best option is a double sided flag. Proper flag placement maintains its functionality and enhances the brand's image.

Finances and Budget

Flags are a primary or secondary source of branding for any business, and cost is a key consideration. Single sided flags are cheaper because less ink and material is used to print only one side. If the brand is on a budget and does not need double sided flags, this option works best. Buying more single sided flags will be more cost effective, especially when covering large areas. Double sided flags come at a higher cost since more ink and material is used for printing. In cases where the flag needs to be visible from all angles, the brand will need to incur the extra cost. This saves the brand from worrying about a messy view of the flag, which can be damaging to the brand’s image.

Long Term Care and Maintenance

Both flags are durable, but double sided flags have a longer lifespan.

The thicker material used for the double sided flags aid in keeping the flags windproof, waterproof, and even shield the sun to an extent. If you need the flag for monthly markets and seasonal events, a double sided flag would work best as it would stay in better shape. While single sided flags are tough, their thinner material is prone to wearing out quickly if used outdoors a lot. However, for one time events, a single sided flag is more than sufficient. Ultimately, it depends on how frequently you’ll use it and the conditions it will be placed in.

When to choose different flags

Knowing when to choose one flag over the other can be more efficient as well as save you some cash. If you’re on a tighter budget spend, need to mount the flag onto a surface, or only need a flag for a short period of time, single sided is the way to go. An example of this is placing a single sided flag on the side of a food truck that is only approached from the front. For flags that will be placed in an open area, need to look good from all angles or used many times, double sided is the better option.A two-fold display flag located at the main entrance of the festival where people will be moving around the flag throughout the day will ensure that the branding looks professional at all times. There is no “best” option overall. Rather, it all comes down to individual requirements.
